UST Consultant Certification Program

INITIAL CERTIFICATION APPLICATION AND FEES (UAC R311-201-3)

Utah UST Consultant Application must be completed and submitted to the Division of Environmental Response and Remediation (DERR) for approval no later than ten working days prior to the day of the exam.  Each applicant must pay an application and certification fee of $225.00 for a two-year certification period.  The required fee shall accompany the application.

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR INITIAL CERTIFICATION (UAC R311-201-4)

Each applicant shall meet the following eligibility requirements:

                                                                  

A two-hour time limit is allowed for completion of the closed-book exam.  (Each applicant must show picture identification to the exam administrator.  A calculator and a number two pencil are required for the exam.  A calculations worksheet will be provided.)  The minimum passing score is 75%.  If an applicant does not pass the exam, a re-take exam will be scheduled approximately three weeks from the date of the initial exam.  In the event that the applicant does not pass the re-take exam, an additional re-take exam will be scheduled six months from the date of the initial exam.  If the applicant does not pass the second re-take exam, they must wait an additional six months to submit a new application.  The applicant must pay an additional $150.00, and take and pass the initial exam.

RENEWAL CERTIFICATION APPLICATION AND FEES (UAC R311-201-3)

A Utah UST Consultant Renewal Application must be completed and submitted to the Division of Environmental Response and Remediation (DERR) for approval prior to, or on the day of, the exam.  Each applicant must pay an application and certification fee of $225.00 for a two-year certification period.  The required fee shall accompany the application.

ELIGIBILITY FOR RENEWAL CERTIFICATION (UAC R311-201-4)

Each applicant must be a currently certified UST Consultant and shall meet the following eligibility requirements:

Training: Each applicant must meet Occupational Safety and Health Agency safety requirements in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120 and any other applicable safety training, as required by federal and state law, and within a six month period prior to application must complete an approved training course or equivalent in a program approved by the Executive Secretary to provide training to include the following areas: state and federal statutes, rules and regulations, groundwater and soil sampling, and other applicable Department of Environmental Quality policies.  Currently, review of the UST Consultant Certification Manual or attendance to the UST Consultant Certification Renewal Course satisfies the latter training requirement. Renewal Certification: In order to renew certification, each applicant must select one of the following two options:

*The renewal course (Option 2) will begin promptlyat 9:00 a.m. and finish at 1:00 p.m.. The comprehensive exam (Initial certification & Option 1) will begin at 2:00 p.m.*

Those persons desiring accommodation for a disability under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) should notify Brooke Baker, ADA Coordinator, in writing at P.O. Box 144810, Salt Lake City, Utah 84114 no later than ten working days before the scheduled testing date. Notification should include medical and/or psychological documentation including a statement of diagnosis and associated functional limitations.

If an applicant has any questions concerning the contents of the exams, these questions must be submitted in writing to the DERR. The questions will then be evaluated to determine their validity, and exam scores will be adjusted as necessary.
